What do you do to stay fit physically? Do you workout or take a jog or at least scroll through exercise and fitness videos? Do you take care of your skin through regular visits to a salon, and do you frequently pamper your hair and nails too?
To a lay person, if you were to ask about ways to keep ourselves healthy, almost everyone would be able to mention one or more techniques to stay fit physically. However, are we really limited to our physical body? Is there something beyond what meets the eye?
Beyond what we can see, the first layer is that of your thoughts. The vastness of all that process, reason, logically analyse or even understand is often underrated. And how and what you think, determines how you feel.
Our emotions and feelings are as dynamic as our world outside. In any particular situation, your emotions are the easiest to de-harmonise. Almost like a perfect symphony, waiting for the slightest slip to completely turn into chaos. Beautiful, but out of order. This e-motion or energy in motion runs through your inner world like blood in your capillaries and in turn impacts your significant energy centres, your Chakras. This then manifests in your physical body, in the form of a cough or a flu, gut issues, back ache or headache , and if ignored for a really long time, these may even result in chronic ailments like diabetes, kidney stones, blood pressure etc.
In other words, how we think and feel along with our energy makes up our entire inner world, our sacred rhythm of life, which if not in sync with our outer world, can create immense dissatisfaction, sadness, hopelessness and much more.
Anxiety and stress, however oversimplified in words of advice, are not as basic as they may seem. Years of internalisation of feelings, systematically absorbed experiences, disempowering belief systems since our childhood altogether result in anxiety and chronic patterns of stress.
Even in our adulthood, when our experiences do not match our expectations, we experience stress. Stress of our workload, stress of our relationships, our families, financial goals, personal goals, peer pressure, societal norms, advancing age, and the list goes on. Life can seem out of our control, almost like sand slipping from your hands when you are trying your hardest to pull everything together. And you know then, that you are a hair’s breadth away from completely breaking down.
What is not fascinating though, is that we underestimate the main character of this outer reality which is responsible for actually making life the way it is : Our inner world - our thoughts, emotions and energy.
Our inner world is ever expanding and much more vast than our outer world. While we keep chasing the outer world, our 6000 times more powerful subconscious thoughts based in anxiety or sadness or irritation, continue to run in the background, ultimately slowing you down at work, hampering your productivity, drifting you away from people and even not letting you take help when you need it the most.
At the same time, there are few modalities which are self-empowering and help you regularly clear the toxins not just from your inner space but from your physical body too.
Yoga, along with meditation and breathwork can be that sacred tool for you which helps you align your inner world with your outer reality. It brings you in sync with your own thoughts and emotions, revitalising your everyday life and restoring mind-body well-being.
Let’s also clarify when meditation will not work for you. If you are too anxious, if you occasionally drink or smoke or use any other substances, if you are currently on psychotropic medication, etc. then meditation will not give you the same benefits as other people. For you, Breathwork shall do wonders as it helps clear our thoughts, makes us more mindful and also cleanses our energy and our body of any toxins or heavy emotions that we may not have been able to attend to during the day.
